SAVVY Sister Spotlight: Shanna - Within Her Designs

How did you become the Savvy Sister that you are today?

I have been a creative as long as I can remember and had the idea in the back of my mind for many years to create my own business. It took some time to get over the fear (honestly, something I still work on!) and find my creative niche. I also have a background in Graphic Design, which has been an amazing asset to my business.

What keeps you going when things get tough?

Have you ever heard that saying "be who you needed when you were younger?" That is what I try to do with my business. I hope to encourage people with my work, quote choices, even just pretty things to look at - I just hope to be a positive source for anyone looking for it. But I also want to be real. Most of the time, I need to take my own advice. And never want to give anyone the idea that my life is perfect and I am always positive.

What's one of the biggest lessons you've learned since starting your own business?

Be who you are. It's easier said than done, but try not to compare yourself to other people. Push yourself outside of your comfort zone and just start. People will be able to tell if you are not genuine and it will become exhausting to keep up something that is not who you really are.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give younger you?

Have more confidence in yourself and your work. Fight hard against the negative committee in your head and start.

What are three of your greatest strengths?

Consistency - practicing over and over again - calligraphy and painting the same things until I like it.

Positivity - I try to have a positivity associated to my work regardless.

Faith - My faith is important to me and my business. But I hope that all people feel encouraged and welcomed from my work and small space on the internet.

What's your go to stress reliever?

Being creative! Drawing and painting can help me go into my own little world and lose track of time. I find a peace that is so needed and it clears my mind by focusing on creating.

What's something you're currently celebrating?

As cliche as it sounds, recognizing the things I regularly take for granted. A roof over my head, my fiancee, even my cat. It's so easy to focus on the negative - but making an effort to focus on the good really helps change my outlook and perspective. Especially with everything going on right now.
